The end game in GW1 is easily better than GW2. There is UW, FoW, Urgoz/Deep, dungeons, DoA etc. In GW2 there are only dungeons.
|
And FoW, UW, Urgoz and DoA are... theme parks?

I'm done with GW2, myself. It was already too detached from the tenets of design GW1 operated off of, despite claiming they were the same. Things like item rarities for armor, paying for waypoints, rerolls, being limited to the same skills forever, the terrible PvP (plus Conquest-only), the damned Trading Post ruling everything, and that Mystic Forge. Ugh. But Ascendent armor broke the camel's back. It's just another MMO. It's only got Guild Wars in the name, and uses the lore very poorly.
GW1 had its flaws, definitely, but GW2 seems to reinvent those flaws, make them worse, and then try to tie gold sinks into all of them while actively making the game around them all much worse. People from other MMOs, who seem to be the market ANet is shooting for now, won't know the difference. GW1 vets should know better. Sadly, I'm now of the opinion there are no good MMOs on the market, and there probably never will be. If GW2 can get it this wrong, it means money is now dominating the industry to the point that no developer can get it right.

The live LA ones had major deployment issues on top of that.
But events are microscopic parts of the picture. They're not what I was talking about.
I'm talking about the new dungeon. It's GLORIOUS and the most GW1-esque party based content in the game yet.

This game is trash, more akin to WoW (I know, sorry). Not to mention pvp straight up felt like vanilla WoW getting 1 shot by rogues except it's anyone with a glass cannon build rofl. In pve there are so many 1shot mechanics it makes my head spin.
It's very clear that they have a different view on the players than they did once before. GW1 was that special snowflake that stood out for its incredible originality, uniqueness, and it was really hit or miss with a lot of people. But ANet didn't care, they kept it the way it was because the people who loved it were the only people that mattered.
GW2 is the total opposite. They want to try and please everyone, and omg, as if this wasn't proven totally impossible with Blizzard trying to please casuals and hardcores in WoW. They should have kept it GW, but the game is not going to change in any dramatic manner so I digress... I will simply weep for ANet being the once true great heroes and my favorite company turn into Blizz.
I guess this happens with every company, no matter how good they are, once they expand it's all over. RIP Guild Wars franchise. I will play GW1 until the servers are taken down and just hope one of these days they add more content, lol yea right, but still.
I feel I should also add that the game is so horribly unoptimized yet they haven't even hinted that they are doing anything about it, and even denied nvidia some potential optimizing even though on the GW2 forums there are thousands of posts crying about terrible FPS. I get 10 FPS on my high end PC in both WvW and large events, basically anywhere with a lot of characters on screen.
It's a total joke.. I've never seen such a badly made engine, and supposedly this is a heavy modified version of GW1's engine. Whatever they did, completely ruined it. Even if I WANTED to play the game, I wouldn't be able to because it's like watching a slide show in the bigger events..
|
I agree, so much!
And honestly, they aren't hinting about anything. They seem to me, like they don't give a flying f*ck about their players. And yeah, it's not Guild Wars 2. It's Action RPG Wars. It's so boring I could cry. But then again, I feel GW is so dead now I log in and there's nothing. First AB died, then now, there's no FA any more either, which was the one thing I did since AB died.
I guess we could all dreams someone out there, wants to buy the rights(if you can do that?) to Guild Wars, to make an actual Guild Wars 2, true to the game. But of course with jump and HQ! At least that's what I wish for!

Jade Quarry is still active, most of the regular players who played FA are there, and the bots are far less frequent, i don't find it as fun as FA, but it's much more fun than my experience of GW2

In a way, I am glad my machine can't handle GW2. That way I am not tempted to buy it inspite of several negative opinions. It sounds like the other online multiplayer games I have played. The one I chose was good, the sequel sucked, trying to be too much like the competitor of the first one.
This was a feeling I had back when they annouced GW2, and somewhere I have a post saying such. Too lazy to search it out tonight.

As I don't have a pre toon but, its pretty easy to get now even if you are casual player you can have it in less than 2 weeks.
Do Char at the gate ...map back to town ...press L then delete the quest/ then obtain it again from Rurik as its xp you wish only till level 10.
Don't do any quests at all just your primary profession skills only until you are level 16 as this level gives very few XP so by doing all the quests then you will be level 17 and your XP will rise a lot since the monster xp reward goes up then.
The dailies you don't even need to go into Northlands as Each daily comes up all you do is just go out and kill e.g the first 4 mobs map back and run out again do this over and over till your next daily is about to be replaced then finish it Claim the 1k Xp and do the same on the next daily.
so as said this way even as casual its done in under 2 weeks otherwise if u play more you can have it less than a week unlike before it took months and months

GW had competitive pvp on top of all other forms
GW2 has casual pvp that doesn't even get my grandma excited when she is on the winning run...

Well actually it's because of the bad controls
I've been back a few times trying really hard to like it. But I don't.

I've also somewhat resigned from GW2 because it's just not fun. It has a lot more required grind (to level up and get armor) and everything just seem so inaccessible or inconvenient compared to the way it was in GW 1.
I still enjoy Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry because it is truly casual PvP with simple objectives that can be done alone or with assistance. But in GW 2, WvW is just a massive zerg-fest where it's hard to feel like you're actually making a difference.
I also like the fact that I can do 95% of the content with my 7 heroes or, if I can only find 1 or 6 friends to play with, then we can add heroes to fill out the rest of the party. In GW 2, PvE is nowhere near as convenient (even though the party size is 5) and most of it, like map completion and general DE farming, is done alone or in another zerg group as there is no reason to play with your friends.
I'm not a fan of the control/support/damage mechanics. I liked playing purely defensive builds in GW 1 like Prot Monk, Prot Necro, ER Ele, ST Rit, Imbagon and I liked having a visible aggro bubble and the ability to see what skills your enemies or allies are using. I also liked being able to frequently interrupt my enemies when I'm playing a Ranger or Mesmer. All of that made combat feel strategic and exciting while GW 2 only gives you a dodge-button as the main, viable defense. By the way, I find that when I have a utility or elite skill with a really long recharge then I simply don't use them... ever, because I'm afraid there will a situation when I really need it but it will already be recharging; so I always go for the skills that have a shorter recharge and I wish the others would have their recharge reduced to 45 seconds, or less, and their effects could be reduced proportionally.
Lastly, in GW 1 you got max level and max armor closely after you finished the "tutorial area" of the game. You could even get the weapon with max stats if you know how to use the wiki, especially if you already have a level 20 character with access to almost everywhere. In GW 2, exotic armor and max level are far harder to acquire. I don't see the point in grinding for pixels when I could be having fun playing a video-game.
I'm still glad I bought the Deluxe version of GW 2 and I'll still be playing it (when I don't feel like playing other games) because I want to know what happens to the lore. But, overall, I'm having more fun with GW 1 than GW 2.
Edit: I'm actually fine with the controls of GW 2, but I really hate it that we still don't have a first-person view or that we can't zoom the camera out a bit further.

This thread is for those who have RETURNED from gw2, you dont seem to have done this, so I believe this thread is not for you.
There are MANY people who are not enjoying gw2 for whatever reason, if the OP doesnt like the game because it causes physical pain--then that is a good reason to NOT play it (I also have noticed the same problems with gw2 so the OP is not alone in that regard).
Moderator note:
Please keep this on topic: people returning from gw2!

Can we get an update from the players on the state of the game? It broke my heart to see FA empty. I loved that arena and there is nothing in GW2 even remotely close to it.
For all the improvements they made in GW2, GW1 PvP was light years ahead of it. I am honestly dissapointed by WvW. I am in a serious WvW guild that has one of the maps allocated to it each week (our server has meetings and divides the borderlands/EB amongst different guilds alliance for the week so we have a co-ordinated presence on them all) and it's gotten us to tier one. My server (Sea of Sorrows) is currently predicted to be the top ranked server when the match ups rotate this weekend. I'm saying all this because I want to qualify my statement that WvW boils down to a clusterRED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO of mind boring zergs and siege fests.
While FA had turtles and gates, it was always individual player actions that mattered most. Playing a ledge ranger crippling and interupting the eles trying to nuke gates, playing a nuker and destroying gates, hell even playing a bonder and endlessly holding a gate - or a necro stripping enchantments from NPCs, all of this was far more engaging and exciting than what WvW offers. In WvW, while I do get my moments of individual combat, it's too far and few between and too much focus is placed on zerg tactics. That and even the highest tiers have serious problems with getting the numbers on the maps at all times so sometimes it's not zerg vs zerg, it's a five man team vs a zerg, playing small ops and taking camps but never fighting players.
How is the GW1 population these days? FA seems dead but JQ is still alive. Are people still taking halls? Are sigils still impossible to buy? Are DoA speed clears over? What about Zaishen dailies? How are all your guilds doing? What's going on in GW1?
